Morality

Morality. The embodiment of everything that ever was and everything that ever will be. Intensely suffocating, while simultaneously, intensely freeing. Morality is duality. It is life and it is death, just as death is life and life is death. Nothing is safe from the choking grip morality has on the universe and everything that calls it home.

Humans will be born and humans will die. Butterflies will fly and butterflies will die. Trees will grow and trees will die. Stars will be born and stars will die. The universe has been born and the universe will die. We are all a product of a chain of morality that has been occurring for billions of years. The oxygen we breathe. The calcium in our bones. The iron in our blood. These microscopic elements that hold the foundations of humanity together, come from this chain of morality. Our universe, the cosmic phenomenon we call home, has undergone the same journey that we all have. It has been born. It has grown, expanded and matured. It has discovered new parts of itself and learned through self exploration. It has created everything we know, including ourselves. Our sun, our moon, our solar system. All the things that we know, have been a product of the same cosmic chain.

These facts do not change morality, nothing can. It has cemented itself as the center of our universe. It will extend its all consuming grip onto everything in it. How are we supposed to live with this? We did not choose life. We did not ask to be born. To live or to die. But how special are we??? We could have become stars or trees or butterflies. We have all the materials for those fates of the cosmic chain in our bodies. Yet somehow, someway…we are here. “And it is here that we are”.

We were born within the cosmic chain, just as our universe was a mere 13 billion years ago. And by some twist of fate, we get to breathe. We get to think and laugh and cry and learn and dance and eat and run and read and scream and talk and listen. We get to drive with the windows down screaming singing with our best friends. We get to listen to our favorite music and paint even if we’re terrible. We get to read books and learn about our world. We get to watch movies and escape to other worlds, when ours is unbearable. We get to witness love. We get to experience love. We get to experience heartbreak. We get to experience loss and grief. We get to experience anger. We get to run to our rooms and cry ourselves to sleep. We get to write about our problems, when no one seems to understand. We get to think about our world and ourselves and our future and our lives. We get to create friendships. We get to pet dogs. We get to swim in the ocean at sunset. We get to hike a mountain and see our world from the top. We get to lay in the grass and let sunlight consume us. We get to feel life in our minds and our hearts. We get to feel both the suffocation and liberation of morality in our souls. And how special is that??? Out of all the possible forms our souls could have taken, it chose the abundance of life that is a human, being.

We are the universe experiencing itself. We are one piece in the cosmic chain of morality. We are life. We are death. And we are here.
