Love

Love is arguably the most powerful force to exist in the universe. Some may claim that hate is more powerful, but in my opinion, love powers the entire world and everyone in it. The thing about love is that it paints a metaphor of sorts, for life itself. One of my favorite questions to ask people is if they believe life is simple or complex. My answer has always centered around the former because the concept of life is so unbelievably complex that at the end of the day it really is simple. We are born, we live and we die, that’s that. We make life complex, and that’s not a bad thing, but at the end of the day it is incredibly simple. I think a lot of people get lost in the complexities and forget that our sole purpose is to live and enjoy our lives. Love is a lot like life. It is so complex that it is simple, yet somehow we continue to get lost in all of the complexities of love and life.

While some may argue hate is stronger than love, I wholeheartedly disagree. Hate is a powerful force, but I think love is incomparable to anything in this world. Love makes you do crazy things, especially for the people you love. If you think about it, a lot of our major life decisions stem from love. Hell, a majority of our life path stems from love, whether it be from a parent, friend, family member, teacher or even stranger. We learn at a very young age that we are loved and we also continue to learn it every single day. We learn to love platonically as we grow into kids and teenagers and as we get older, romantic love starts to make appearances in our lives. The interesting thing about love is that once again it is so complex and that makes it really confusing sometimes.

We are told from a young age that we are supposed to grow up, go to school, find love, get married, have a family, provide for them, retire and then die, as morbid as that sounds. That is our “supposed” life purpose but to me it’s just not. Our purpose is to enjoy this incredible blessing of being alive, whatever that means to each individual person. If that means getting married and having a family to you, great! If that means traveling the world and enjoying other places and cultures to you, great! As I said, I think love powers our world and everyone in it, but I don’t believe it should be a set life goal to find romantic love and settle down for everyone. I think the most important way to take advantage of the power of love is to start by truly loving yourself. So much of the time, hate in our world stems from our own individual insecurities. While hate makes you say mean things, do crazy things or act out of character, love makes you do the same thing to an entire new level. But if we all start by loving ourselves, I am convinced our world would be a happier, healthier, more peaceful place for everyone. There would be less people projecting insecurities onto others, feeling pressure to look or act a certain way or simply caring about what everyone else thinks. If you love yourself, and you are comfortable in that love, you do not care about what anyone thinks and that is power. So while we are taught from a young age that finding romantic love is necessary to be happy, I believe finding love in yourself is an actual key to happiness. And that key not only closes the door, at least partially, to hate, it also opens the door to finding true peace, love and happiness in this complex, yet simple world.

Love, just like life, is so complex that it is simple. Finding that simplicity and just starting with truly loving yourself, is the most powerful action you can do to create and live whatever life you want. That is power. That is life. And that is love.

Enjoy your life. I love you and of course, if it is just me reading this, I love you and I am so proud of you.
